HTFN has organized a cultural exchange volunteer opportunity in Nepal. Nepal is rich in culture, natural resources and landscape. The country is an eclectic mix of ethnic groups and sub-groups who speak over 100 languages. There are numerous festivals that are celebrated throughout the year in traditional styles, highlighting enduring customs and beliefs.
The culture exchange program is designed for anyone who has a keen interest in nepali culture. After the completion of intensive nepali language training, volunteers and will stay with a nepali family in a village and participate in village life. Volunteers will experience the different local culture while sharing their own culture and customs. The core objective of the culture stay is to ensure volunteers gain cross-cultural experience.
The home stay program is suitable for an entire family, an individual or a group. There are no age barriers. This is a unique opportunity to experience Nepal differently will leave a lasting impression. The home stay program is august to December . this is a great time of year for festivals in Nepal that you can take part in celebrating. You will have an opportunity to learn more about the varying soci-econonic status of various groups, social psychology, sociology, and anthropology of the nepali people.
HTFN provides a unique opportunity to make a real contribution to nepali society, while simultaneously experiencing the rich culture of Nepal. Placements are available across Nepal. Nepal is a landlocked and very diverse country. We can place you with a family in the mountains, the valley, the jungle , the desert region, or in Kathmandu. Each region has its own standards when it comes to religious practices and cultural norms. You will live with a family in your chosen location and adopt the lifestyle practiced there.
It will be incumbent upon you as a volunteer to personalize the experience and share your own life lesson and practices with your host family and community while maintaining an obvious respect for theirs. You will also have the opportunity to visit and help out at local school.
Nepal culture is distinctively open and friendly and participants are made to feel as though they are part of the family. Since there are different ethnic groups living in Nepal, we can find a host family for you based on your interests and religious views. There are four predominant religious groups in Nepal.
Hinduism, Buddhism, Muslim, and Christianity. We are happy to place you in any of these families.
Volunteer must be:
- At least 16 years or older at the start of the program.
- Have an open mind and flexible attitude towards working in new and different environments.
- Prepared to do some manual work in their placement.
- Airfare / travel to Nepal

- Any personal expenses
